This little film began as a simple book trailer for my dear friend Joanna Ebenstein, founder of Morbid Anatomy, and Pat Morris' remarkable book on legendary Victorian taxidermist Walter Potter. Somewhere along the way, it took on a life of its own and blossomed into a short documentary that has gone on to enchant thousands of viewers around the world.
The film follows the passionate devotees, collectors, and admirers of the long-lost Walter Potter Museum of Curiosities, exploring the strange beauty and enduring fascination of Potter's whimsical anthropomorphic taxidermy. More than a century after his death, his work continues to inspire artists, collectors, and lovers of the wonderfully unusual.
The film premiered at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and later received honors at international film festivals in Mexico and London. More than a decade later, it remains one of my favorite films I've ever had the privilege to make.
