Although it’s a fun idea to have your very own fully functional working coaster model, there’s a small problem…they take up a whole lot of space. The Wall Mounted Marble Coaster solves this problem! This kinetic sculpture draws its inspiration from the awe and wonder of a roller coaster without taking up any precious desk or shelf space- it’s easily mounted to a wall and contained in it’s own integrated frame. This model was designed to be 3D Printed and assembled without requiring any additional tools or equipment. Print the parts, snap the pieces together, and just like that you will have your very own piece of mechanical art that you can hang on your wall.
Designed using Solidworks, the main engineering challenge was fine tuning the ramps and loops to allow the marbles to complete the track in a smooth and satisfying motion, while keeping it in a form that can be mounted to the wall. Creating a mechanical lift chain that works on the same plane as the whole track added to the challenge because it required the chain to bend in 90 degrees twice!
This project has existed as a vision in my head for a very long time and I am very excited to bring it into reality.
**The only additional thing you need to make this work is 6-10 1/2 inch steel ball bearings (also can be found by searching slingshot ammo). I bought mine from amazon for $10.**
