Want your characters to feel grounded and believable? A walk cycle is one of the best ways to train that. In this student practice, Ekaterina Iovleva focuses on weight, balance, timing, and clean transitions between poses. All of these fundamentals make movement feel more natural.

Try exploring different walks: light and relaxed, heavy and slow, confident or hesitant. Small changes in spacing, hip movement, and foot placement completely change the character’s personality, adding intention to their posture. Ask yourself, “Where is the character going, and why?”

That’s what makes this a simple but powerful exercise that builds a strong foundation for any animation. Keep walking, keep animating
