The Waḳaƞ Ṭípi Center in Saint Paul celebrated its grand opening on May 29, 2026. Located on the East Side within the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary, this $14 million, 7,500-square-foot facility is the first Dakota-owned building in the Bdote area since the Dakota people were banished in 1862.The new center is an intergenerational gathering place to honor the sacred Waḳaƞ Ṭípi cave and features a dedicated area for ceremonies, leadership gatherings, and teaching gardens; An interpretive hall, classrooms, and a teaching kitchen; Trails and interactive exhibits about Dakota history and connection to the land.
