As part of our road trip around the New Zealand North Island we stumbled upon a little bit of magic at the Wairakei Natural Thermal Valley. Here you can find mud pools, silica formations, steam vents and all manner of rare and endangered plant life. All this accompanied by nonstop bird song. There is also a fascinating cafe with Devonshire Teas and Home Made Cakes. If you want to you can stay over camping and there are powered sites available for those with vans.
