This is a series of clips taken from a June 30th, 1985 airing of 1975's "The Last Of Sheila" on WABC's Sunday Night Movie. WABC is New York City's channel 7, ABC's flagship affiliate.
It begins with a brief station Public Service Announcement from Storm Field about water conservation, then there's a Morning Show tease with Regis Philbin. Almost a minute-and-a-half of dead air follows, with different slides. Newscasters Ann Butler and Larry Mendte appear at the news desk next, ending special coverage of that day's TWA Flight 847 hostage release in West Germany. Butler hesitantly delivers Dr. Bill Gutsch's weather forecast (but she did her best with it), then she announces the Eyewitness News Sports Special with Jerry Azar that immediately followed. About twenty-five seconds of news theme closes the show, which ends with an aborted commercial and more dead air.
Next, announcer Wally Parker introduces tonight's double feature (with 1941's Sundown), then the rousing opening to the Sunday Night Movie rolls. This leads to a spacey commercial for New York's Lottery and their new scratch-off, Sky's the Limit. Parker reads a second-feature tease, then there's a commercial for the Greater Westchester County Fair at Yonkers Raceway, an ad very familiar to New Yorkers since it played for years. This is followed by Parker reading a 30-second bio of a performer in tonight's movie, Raquel Welch. A SNM bump plays, then an intense Brooke Shields talks us out of doing illegal drugs in a PSA sponsored by Phoenix House drug rehab. A quick spot for the New York Daily News' Lucky Bucks contest is next, with a title bump.
Another bio from Parker, this one for Joan Hackett (in which he mentions her 1978 "comedy situation" Another Day). That week's Star Magazine offered exclusive photos of a fictional character's funeral and details of Bill Cosby's sad childhood, and we have spokeswoman Linda Watkins sitting with Jeane Dixon, who makes guesses about what the rest of 1985 will bring. A quick title bump precedes a promo for Entertainment Tonight, which leads to a glimpse of the end of the film, a SNM slide, and finally Parker reads the second feature intro.
