From its inception in 1924, the Epigraphic Survey of the Oriental Institute, based at Chicago House in Luxor, Egypt, has utilized the modern technology of the day in its documentation, restoration, and publication of Egypt's Pharaonic monuments. Now, 93 years later, Chicago House finds itself still leading the way in the development of new digital imaging technologies that are revolutionizing epigraphic recording processes and allowing even greater accuracy. In this talk Chicago House director Ray Johnson discusses the Epigraphic Survey's current documentation, conservation, and restoration programs in Luxor, and how recent digital innovations - including 3-D imaging - are changing the face of archaeology.
