「 Indie Tuesdays 」 Witcheye (PC) - Gameplay / No Commentary Bit Game Reviews 2021-02-02 | Witcheye is a huge pixelled arcade adventure where you play as a witch's eye going through short levels killing enemies and avoiding hazards. It has a unique movement mechanic where you're not affected by gravity, and you fling the eye bouncing around the level. It is like a realtime minigolf.This video is of the Steam version, but there is also a mobile version both for iOS and Android that I'm sure it plays better with touch controls.Witcheye follows the level structure of retro platformers with a world map and a boss at the end of each world. There are hidden collectables that will make you repeat a level more than once if you want to get 100%.The pixels are big, but the sprite and backgrounds are colorful and well animated, and the music fits perfectly the 16-bit feel.

It plays like a Tekken, with less air time than 2D fighting games and more focused on combos and grab moves.As a difference with most fighting games, when you get to the final boss, Force Five lets you choose between three difficulties.

As you advance through the levels new mechanics are introduced, and now you have to count not just the adjacent tiles, but the whole row in a direction. A few levels later you also have to consider walls, tiles in an area, take into account how many mines are left... let's just say that the bigger levels are quite brain melting.The game is free to play and offers hundreds of levels, and it has also DLCs that give you not only new levels but new mechanics.If you enjoy Hexceed, try also the Hexcells series which are extremely similar.
「 Retro Fridays」Cleopatra Fortune Plus (Naomi) - Gameplay / No Commentary Bit Game Reviews 2021-01-15 | Cleopatra Fortune Plus is very similar to the classic falling blocks puzzle games, but it has a very cool mechanic for removing blocks. Instead of looking at the color of adjacent blocks like Puyo Puyo or Columns (and all the mobile match-3 clones) it makes you enclose gems and pharaohs around rocks to make them disappear.This new way of organizing the playing area will make your brain hurt a little until you get used to it, although it is the good kind of pain.I'm not particularly a fan of chibi characters, but they are well drawn and animated, and the egyptian setting fits very well with the burying mechanic.

But you can't (and shouldn't) do that in Calico, it wants you to take your time, to do things because of the aesthetics and not just to go down a checklist.
