How to service your VW transaxle and check the oil. This transaxle takes about 3.5 QTs of gear oil. You don’t want to put just any transmission fluid in. I used 75W90 GL-5 STP. You should be good with using MT-1 or GL-4 gear oil as well. This will help the transaxle run smoother and last longer. I bought this gear oil from AutoZone.

Remove fill plug with 17MM Allen key/socket and the drain on the bottom if you’re draining the fluids.
