Basic Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, says partnerships with the private sector are critical as government grapples with an estimated R120-billion education infrastructure backlog.

Gwarube was speaking during the opening of a new privately funded mathematics and science school in KwaNobuhle, Kariega, as part of marking Volkswagen's 75 years in the country.

The school, built in partnership with LEAP Science and Mathematics Schools, is the first of its kind in the Eastern Cape.
