This will be a treat. Perhaps not the furthest we've gone for an on location session, but one of the prettiest I'd guess.
Pretty exciting too. Why?
Well, you may remember we covered the explosion in new distilleries in a November vPub (linked below) and the positive effect they are having on the scotch malt whisky scene. Back then, I was predicting north of 70 new malt distilleries between 2000 and 2030 - in Scotland alone. We covered a lot in that session but a question remains. How are they succeeding so far? Where and how do these new distilleries see growth when there are so many new brands, especially when they are appearing alongside huge-scale expansion of incumbent producers?
Well, it seems there remains huge potential, created by opportunities designed as well as incidental. If we need any more assurance of that, we need only look at the immediate challenges new distilleries already face trying to meet demand. In most cases they are all too quickly considering how to expand their existing production. Even more compelling, some of those new distilleries already have their eye on even more new distilleries!
Hence, to grapple with this phenomenal and continued growth of interest in whisky, we head to a perfect spot - the Isle of Raasay.
We live in times fuelled by a fervour not only for more whisky, but also genuine and natural product with good, honest transparency; the kind of whisky we, as enthusiasts, love to discover and explore.
With an eye on scale versus flavour, as well as this transparency, we'll cover innovation, integrity, provenance and new opportunity merging with tradition. All the while we’ll try to answer; Who’s going to buy all this whisky?
While we’re there it would be rude not to ask about their new Campbeltown distillery plans too, don’t you think?
