Time for some new arrivals.
It’s said that the only constant is change, and that’s as true in whisky as anywhere else. As markets adjust and new products are developed, so too new distilleries and brands enter the fold. Truly exciting times for folk, such as us, who are forever curious about whisky.
But of course, ‘new’ never guarantees ‘better’. While we hope that new releases are carefully curated and prepared to be as good as they can be, they’re not always better than what existed before. Should they end up being a step backwards, or more of the same, then new just simply means ‘different’; change purely for the sake of it.
But it strikes me that a huge proportion of the things we celebrate today are things that, until very recently, didn’t exist in whisky. Think Arran, Kilchoman, Daftmill, Ardnamurchan, Ardnahoe, Kilkerran - need I go on? These didn’t exist as celebrated brands when I first began my whisky exploration. But they’re here and they’re loved.
Add this to the constant evolution from legacy brands and there’s always something to catch our eye, our attention or our evermore-precious whisky budget.
So, let’s try to keep up, shall we? As the first signs of Spring renewal hits the Northern Hemisphere, let’s have a wee look at what’s ‘new’ in whisky in 2026.
