I've been promising the Roddy return for a while. Well, we finally got our act(s) together to fix an evening this week. Picking up nicely from where we left off the last time we visited this idea (which was 'only' three years ago!), but this time instead of mixing things with whisky, we're mixing whiskies.
This is something that's been percolating for a while, spurred on by my Recycled Cask project; an 'infinity' cask full of odds and ends. We'll assess where it's at and how successful my forget-it-that'll-do attitude towards mixing whiskies has been.
You see, I think this topic has become more interesting to us as a community.
Over recent years the accumulation has been high and that might mean we have a little more whisky on hand to get playful with; finding new ways to have fun with the whisky we already have is a nice thing to try.
To my simple mind, there are two distinct ways to blend whisky: to mix it randomly in the vague hope you'll make something nice, maybe - if you're very lucky indeed - nicer than the components, or to blend whisky with a very specific target in mind - for the sake or a specific aim, style or recipe, or perhaps consistency.
We'll play around with both.
While my experiment is haphazard and random, Roddy has tried to recreate his own version of a loved whisky, which is difficult indeed. We've shared some samples with local folk who will hopefully tune in and corroborate or decimate our attempts and assessments.
All the while though, we really hope we can encourage some playfulness at home with whatever drams or bottles you might be willing to sacrifice; all for the sake of finding another way to keep whisky fun.
