Residents of Iceland have until 29 August to vote on whether the country should reopen accession talks with the European Union.

The country of 400,000 people has wrestled with the issue before when it applied to join the bloc in 2009 after a financial crisis devastated its economy, before ultimately shelving its application in 2015.

But US President Donald Trump's recent threats to take control of Greenland have worried neighbouring Iceland, which relies on the United States and NATO for its defence.
