Volvo 940 Turbo in Action with Car Acceleration Sound and small drift. The Volvo 940 of the Swedish car manufacturer Volvo. The 900 series was introduced in autumn 1990 as a further development of the 700 series and solved these completely in the late summer 1992 completely. The 900 series initially comprised vehicle types 940 and 960. The designations are usually for the number of cylinders of the engine (940: four-cylinder, 960: six-cylinder). At the end of 1996, Volvo changed the sales terms of its models: the Kombis were now called "V" (for versatility), the sedans as "S" (for Sedan = English for sedans). The following two-digit number stands for the series (eg S40, V70). From the 960 sedan was thus the S90, from the 960 Kombi of the V90. However, there are also vehicles that were built during the 1997 model year but still bear the type designation 960. The S90 / V90 can be distinguished from the 964/965 by means of small details eg by the arrangement of the seat heating switches. These are no longer arranged one behind the other in the direction of travel but are located on the left and right behind the automatic selector lever. The 940 was not affected by the change of type names. It was sold to the end of the production under the classical name.
