Written in exile during the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War, 'O Vos Omnes' is one of Pablo Casals’ most personal and poignant works. Best known as one of the great cellists of the 20th century, Casals turned here to composition as a means of expressing profound grief and compassion.
The text, drawn from the Book of Lamentations, is a cry of sorrow. In Casals’ setting, this ancient lament becomes something deeply intimate, a quiet fragile meditation on suffering, humanity, and empathy.

O vos omnes qui transitis per viam,
attendite et videte
si est dolor sicut dolor meus.
Attendite, universi populi,
et videte dolorem meum.
O all you who pass by the way,
look and see
if there is any sorrow like my sorrow.
Look, all people,
