Vladimir Zhirinovsky was one of the most well-known russian politicians. Or you heard about him when he predicted a conflict in Ukraine with startling accuracy back in 2021. Often the labels used to describe him were not the most flattering. The mildest definition you can give him is "eccentric political enterpreneur" or "Russian Donald Trump". But the Western press usually prefers something like "the Kremlin's ultranationalist court jester". There is a grain of truth in this - Zhirinovsky's behavior was often out of line, and his statements sometimes had nothing to do with common sense. But we do realize that a clown could not have survived in Russian politics for 30 years, while in 1993 his party won Russia's first parliamentary elections.
