Just before the work on isolating the John Pertwee Doctor Who title elements I had an idea.
I chat to loads of people about sound isolation all the time when it comes to themes, I asked myself if it was possible to use similar techniques but in the field of visuals, to remove elements from something to end up with an element I wanted, Doctor M1ck coined the term visual isolation
I found that with some things it was possible to isolate out everything that was not stationary and even the reverse! A few patchups after and its a damn site faster than simply painting out stuff.
the tester was the star elements in the fifth doctor titles, I then tried other things and found that it could remove the frame blending in the mccoy closing titles also, the technique is limited though and doesnt work on everything
