In this video I visit the real graves of victims from the tragic Sinking of the RMS Lusitania.
When the famous ocean liner was torpedoed and sank in 1915, over 1,000 people lost their lives. Many of the recovered bodies were brought ashore and buried in mass graves. Standing at these graves today is a powerful reminder of one of the most shocking maritime disasters in history.
But this story also focuses on one man connected to the tragedy. After the disaster, he helped identify many of the victims recovered from the sea. Day after day he was faced with the terrible task of recognizing the dead from the wreck of the Lusitania. The experience reportedly had a devastating effect on his mind, and the trauma eventually drove him to insanity.
