During the Holidays in the Hudson Valley, the legend of The Headless Horseman takes a back seat to the even older Dutch Legend of Sinterklaas🎅🏻We invite you on a festive journey to explore the legends & lore of Santa Claus and his connection to Sleepy Hollow Country. Along the way, we will encounter legendary figures of Yuletide like Saint Nicholas and Krampus. We'll learn about New York literary legends Washington Irving & Clement Clark Moore who introduced a jolly Christmas to America in the 19th century. Let's kick off the holiday season in the Hollow at the 3rd annual Winter Stroll with festive decorations, events, and gift shopping. Step back in time to a Victorian Christmas in a historic setting at the Historical Society holiday open house.
This year, the beloved poem "A Visit from St Nicholas" or as you might know it "The Night Before Christmas" is celebrating 200 years. We meet up with author, Pamela McColl, at Transom Bookshop where we talk about her new book that details the history and art associated with Clement Clarke Moore's poem "Twas the Night".
