At a press conference in Madrid, Spain on 12 May 2026 WHO Director-General Dr Tedros thanked Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for not only for meeting #Spain’s legal duty under international law, but also for exercising his moral duty to show solidarity with, and compassion and kindness for, the passengers on MV Hondius cruise ship.

WHO will continue to work closely with experts in all affected countries. Our strongest immunity is solidarity.
