Virtualbox snapshots can be thought of as a photograph of a virtual machines current state at a point in time. You can take snapshots of a virtual machine that is powered down or powered up.

When a snapshot is taken of a power down virtual machine the state of the hardware configuration is saved as well as the state of the virtual hard disk.

Taking a snapshot of a powered up virtual machine, while saving the state of the hardware configuration and the virtual hard disk also saves the memory state of the virtual machine. So anything that is in your virtual machines ram is also saved.

In this tutorial i demonstrate both types of Virtualbox snapshot and show you how to use snapshots as a way to recover a damaged virtual machine.
