"I still like the pairing I did back in February with this sonnet and "Boy and Girl in a Garden" by Paul Wonner. Because the face of the girl is obscured and the guy's back is to us, the landscape stark, there are a number of possible interpretations and quite a bit of mystery. Perhaps they are breaking up -- lots of sonnets about that! But the girl seems to be holding a bouquet of flowers, so perhaps the boy is trying to win her back; perhaps he is trying to convince her that he understands what true and lasting love is all about....which brings me to Sonnet 116."—Susan Benninghoff
