This week, FoST hangs out with Manual Cinema, a theatre troupe that tells touching, finger-tingling stories with some of the most basic tools of science: shadows. Combining overhead projectors, paper puppets, actors in silhouette, and live sound manipulation, the multidisciplinary masterminds of Manual Cinema wowed the FoST 2013 Mainstage with subtle, immersive stories without words, sparking smiles and warming hearts. At the 2013 summit, Manual Cinema's team also offered a handful of attendees the opportunity to make their own shadow puppets in an intimate storytelling workshop. This week, we're taking the spirit of that workshop online, allowing audience members around the globe to pick the brains of these shadow-bending storytellers.
Joining us is the whole Renaissance team of Co-Artistic Directors behind the delicate spectacle. The team is made of puppeteer, playwright, dramaturg, and director Drew Dir; choreographer, performer, and narrative theorist Sarah Fornace; artist, musician, and producer Ben Kauffman; director, performer, puppeteer, choreographer, and graphic designer Julia Miller; and sound artist, composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Kyle Vegter.
