Basic virology research has led to the ability to build virus vectors to treat or prevent human diseases, a field called therapeutic virology. In this final session of Virology Lectures 2026, we describe different viruses used for gene therapy, how they work, and examples of their use for treating bacterial infections, vaccines, monogenic gene therapy, and viral oncotherapy.
