It was a busy weekend at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, with the Funk Fest Beach Party drawing 14,000 people and the East Coast Surfing Championships wrapping up.

But as the summer season winds down, Oceanfront businesses are preparing for smaller crowds and a slower stretch ahead. Some shop owners say this summer was already slower than previous years, including during holiday weekends.

Business owners also pointed to violence earlier this summer as a possible factor affecting tourism, as Virginia Beach heads into one more major summer weekend: Labor Day.
