I had to upload this so I could be free, as I simply couldn’t stop tweaking the tiniest little details. hahaha
The original Virbank City theme was already slow and too bassy to make an even slower and deeper Night version, so I chose to make it faster and pitch it up into a “Day” variant.
The biggest change is the organ replacing the vibraphone. The original vibraphone part already had some glissandos, but in order to justify the change, I had to add grace notes both at the attack and release of a lot of notes.
The BW/B2W2 songs each have their own instrument bank. This means the sounds are higher quality, but each bank also contains only a few samples, in order to keep the file size down. The sounds you hear in the original Virbank are pretty much all that exist in that bank, so there are no extra drums or other instruments to work with.
The DPPt/HGSS songs, on the other hand, share their instruments. Their banks are just huge and contain most of the samples used throughout the game! There are exceptions, such as battle themes having different banks from route themes, but the differences are mostly just 3–5 extra instruments...
With that in mind, I took advantage of the much larger selection of sounds and added some extra percussion later on to try to cut through the chill vibe a little. I hope I didn’t go too far, haha.
Enjoy!
