Vincenzo Postiglione (b.1831, d.1916) was an Italian violin maker and one of the most outstanding Neapolitan makers of the 19th century. He worked under Vincenzo Jorio in 1847 before he set up his own workshop in 1855. During the 1850s, he pioneered a new standard in the craft, with his workmanship regarded as one of the best, especially for the tone. His style was largely influenced by Stradivari and Guarneri, as displayed in his f-holes; whereas his C-bouts are characteristically reminiscent of Guadagnini. His violins produce great overall tonal power, due to his distinctly low arching design.
Vincenzo Postiglione had a high output throughout his career and has produced impressive replications of Gagliano instruments, which are highly prized today. He often used different brands on his instruments, as well as signed dedication and drawings. He retired in 1910.
