The metal battery box in this video is from the 1958 RADICON ROBOT, but the information is true for any vintage battery-operated toy with an all-metal battery box. Many toys will have tight fitting batteries or a battery door that fits tight to the batteries or has a sliding lock part that can contact the batteries. All these could easily puncture the thin plastic wrap of modern batteries. On most modern batteries the positive "nipple" end is connected with the side walls of the battery and the negative end is isolated. I did find a Panasonic battery where this was reversed meaning the negative end and the side walls were connected and the positive end was isolated. But in either case any metal that can make contact to the side walls of the battery will be a problem.
