It's been a good long while since I had the opportunity to work on anything related to a game. When this project landed on my desk, metaphorically speaking, I couldn't say no. Dragons, lots of them. They didn't want an orchestral track, which is probably why they came to me. They have all types of dragons, there's so many, so I thought I'd try and represent that in the music. As there are dragons from all over the world, there are instruments from all over. Just to name a few, there's Erhu (Far East), Native American Flute (Americas), Celtic Harp, Uilleann Pipes (Ireland & Scotland), Frame Drums and Horns (Scandinavia), Traditional African percussion and Kalimba (Africa) and Balalaika (Russia). It's such a strange mix bound together with more traditional European string and percussion sections. There's a lot of voices in this as well. My fiancée @HeartFullOfForest sang the lead and did some traditional Scandinavian herding calls. I learned a technique recently where I can isolate my vocal folds from my vocal cords and make some low rumbly nastiness and I used that in transitions to mimic a dragon, because I didn't have a dragon at home to sample. I guess he was out buying groceries at the time. There's a lot to talk about when it comes to this tune, but I'm starting to ramble.
A special thank you to the Draconia community members who sent in footage of their dragons for this video.
