Tapiola Sinfonietta conducted by Tuomas Ollila-Hannikainen

Väinö Raitio (1891-1945) was a Finnish modernist composer who is little known today, largely due to the prominence of National Romanticism in Finnish art music of the early 1900s. For more on Raitio, see the description in my score video of his Toccata: youtube.com/watch?v=uVWY4-CfJLs

As the subtitle implies, this lighthearted Scherzo - written in 1935 - depicts a domestic cat. It's certainly far from the most innovative work Raitio wrote; nevertheless, it is quite entertaining, impeccably orchestrated, and shows that the composer also had a fun side!
