US Doom-Death metal band VIGIL has unveiled the complete album details for "…And The Void Stared Back," scheduled to be released through Argonauta Records on March 29, 2024.
Today is also the day the band releases their new single, entitled 'Erosion of the Soul.'
"We have gone through some lineup changes since the beginning. Covid was not easy to keep a band going, especially one that was trying to get off the ground. Through some member changes we finally settled in on our current lineup. The only position we could not replace we our synth player. We decided to move on without one. In the studio Craig handled the synth and keyboard duties. During the tumultuous period during the pandemic, practices were few and far between. We were all trying to follow protocols and feel out this new way of life. In the spaces between Joe and Craig started a post-rock side project named A World Worth Burning. Once the world opened up again and practice resumed at a normal pace Vigil tightened up their four songs and hit the studio in the summer of 2022. The four song EP... And The Void Stared Back, comes in at just about 35 minutes. We are a sum of our parts, and our influences are clear in our sound. The songs range from European styled doom like My Dying Bride and Katatonia all the way to atmospheric post-rock such as Russian Circles and If These Trees Could Talk. There are slow tempos to drag you though the emotional pain of Dave’s lyrics, and there are blast beats occasionally to spice things up. All of this is wrapped around a groovy sensibility that reflects the old school Thrash roots of Craig. Vigil is currently active and playing local shows, building a fan base and planning our next steps. The writing process has begun for our next album." - says the band
Album tracklisting and cover art are as follows:
01. Descend To Extinction
02. Words Of A Dying Man
03. Erosion Of The Soul
04. Convulsive Ways From A World Beyond
From the ashes of the band Onera, Justin Christian (Bass, Guitars) and Craig Simas (Guitars, Synth) built Vigil to be heavier, and more aggressive but also beautiful and emotional. Joined by Joe Davis to compliment as one of the two bassists in the band, Brandon Phinney on drums and Dave Petillo on vocals. We take the listener down a dark road of sorrow and anger. One of the original building blocks of Vigil was to be as heavy as we could. This led to the decision to have two bass players. As the songs started to take shape and each member was putting their own touches to the arrangements. We realized quickly that we succeeded in our goal. Combining that with our love for Post Rock, Thrash, and Progressive Metal, Vigil is a showpiece for all our influences filtered through our ears, hands, and emotions.
Vigil is:
Craig Simas: Lead Guitar / Synth
Justin Christian: Bass and Rhythm Guitar
Joe Davis: Bass
Dave Petillo: Vocals
Brandon Phinney: Drums

![THRÆDS - Nothing Good to Say (official video) [Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records]
Progressive post-rockers THRÆDS have just released their new single and official video “Nothing Good to Say”, taken from their debut album Impermanence, which will be released on June 6 via Octopus Rising and Argonauta Records, available on CD and digital formats.
THRÆDS dives deep into the complexities of time, self-awareness, and resilience with their latest track, Nothing Good to Say. Fusing progressive post-rock with atmospheric shoegaze elements, the song creates a brooding yet introspective soundscape that mirrors the journey of confronting bitterness while striving to remain curious and humble.
Laced with raw emotion, the lyrics grapple with inner struggles—asking how much hostility and tragedy one can endure before learning to let go. Themes of surrendering control, embracing lifes uncertainties, and resisting darker temptations weave through haunting melodies and expansive instrumentals. Ethereal guitar layers and dynamic buildups guide listeners through a contemplative experience, balancing tension with reflection.
Nothing Good to Say invites listeners to look time in the eye, acknowledge life’s harsh realities, and find peace in vulnerability. It’s a reminder that even amidst chaos and disillusionment, there’s strength in choosing growth over bitterness, and curiosity over fear.
With Impermanence, THRÆDS explore the fragile and fleeting nature of existence through eight meticulously composed tracks. The band confronts the inevitability of entropy and the cycles of creation and destruction, shaping a sound that is both intense and immersive. Their music evolves between moments of overwhelming heaviness and eerie stillness, reflecting the unpredictable forces that shape human experience.
Formed in 2019 by guitarist and composer Angelos Tzamtzis, THRÆDS began as a solo project and quickly developed into a full band following his move to Berlin. Their multinational lineup blends progressive metal, post-metal and atmospheric rock with influences from Gojira, Tool, Alcest, Elder and Porcupine Tree.
Tracklist:
1.Timeless
2.Reflections
3.Nothing Good to Say
4.Clockworks
5.Sole Survivor
6.Devolve
7.Einstein Rosen Bridge
8.Story in Reverse
The album is entirely self-produced. Drums and vocals were recorded by Matthias Schilling at G7 Studios, while all other instruments were recorded by Angelos Tzamtzis. Guest contributions by Alekos Gramma (saxophone) and Vangelis Sazanidis (synthesizer) add further tension and depth to the sound, amplifying the album’s haunting and cinematic atmosphere.
According to the band, Impermanence is a meditation on change and collapse, a reflection on the violence and beauty of transformation. Their aim is to create an unfiltered and honest experience, using dissonance, atmosphere and dynamic shifts to challenge the listener and evoke a strong emotional response.
THRÆDS are:
Angelos Tzamtzis – Guitar, Synthesizer
Celso Borralho – Vocals
Felipe Melo Villarroel – Drums
Barnabás Mihály – Bass
Tim Crawford – Guitar, Backing Vocals
Following the release of their debut EP Akasha and a European tour in 2022, Impermanence marks a new chapter for the band, who are now preparing to bring their sound to new audiences across Europe.
