LYRICS:
Intrigue in your eyes when I speak to you,
you never knew the place I've been.
Though I wonder where your mind travels,
I know you see into my heart.
It's a rush.
In the corner of my eye,
on the snow, you're drawing lines.
Suddenly I'm all alone.
It's a rush.
We're little on the mountainside,
dark, lowered pictures of the sky,
and I know that I am home.
Falling off to the slides in beautiful danger,
quickly I run into the wind.
So I wander in the cold valley,
and victory is in my heart.
It's a rush.
In the corner of my eye,
you take hold of all the lies.
Suddenly I'm all alone.
It's a rush.
We're little on the mountainside,
dark, lowered pictures of the sky,
and I know that I am home.
ABOUT THE SONG:
Skiing is my favorite hobby besides writing music, and this song definitely connects to my experiences skiing through the music and the lyrics. Like with any activity, a passion for skiing is hard to explain to someone who doesn't regularly do it. Years ago, an intrigued friend asked me "what is it that you love about skiing?" and I replied, "well, there's something about being on a mountain, moving fast, and sometimes being in extreme weather conditions that...um..." I didn't know what to say, but to my amazement, she simply interjected with "it's a rush."
Her words have rang in my ears ever since, because she knew nothing about skiing, yet she fully understood my enjoyment of it. She made me think about how humans can understand each other's passions without having each other's experiences, but also, we can only have a general idea, and personal experience can never be fully explained by words. This song is a reflection on explaining skiing to other people, and also a fantasy of what it would be like if they could be with me on the slopes to see all the true ins and outs of the sport.
