Schmigadoon! is a homage to Golden Age musical, with plenty of references to classic Broadway. In an interview with Playbill just moments after taking home the trophy for Best Orchestrations, Tony winners Doug Besterman and Mike Morris expressed how thrilled they are that, with this particular project, audiences are able to really see and understand each layered choice they make with the music in Schmigadoon!, and what it's referencing or expressing.
