Since the 1980s, educational video games have been commonplace in schools, helping to engage generations of kids with STEM concepts. Games have advanced a lot since then but remain a great tool for inspiring students.
We’ll explore a new initiative to engage K-12 students to create the games themselves in the U.S. National Science Foundation’s “Discovery Files”.
Imagine life 75 years into the future and the ways science and technology have reshaped our world— Whether it's floating sky-cities, sustainable ecosystems, or the ways society has harnessed the power of quantum computing.
“The NSF Game Maker Awards for K-12” commemorate
the 75th anniversary of the U.S. National Science Foundation by asking K-12 students to highlight their creativity, technical skills, and passion for gaming to create their own video games based on the theme “Life in 2100”.
Students will use their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to create an original game that shows how science transforms life 75 years in the future!
Participants will compete for awards including cash prizes, the opportunity to showcase your game to leaders in STEM and the gaming industry, and a once-in-a-lifetime trip! Don’t miss out, the competition is now open, and you have until January 31st, 2025, to submit your game.
The future is in your hands—will you rise to the challenge?
