For the first time ever, we're getting an inside look at the deployment of a Black Swift S0 uncrewed aerial system (drone) from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter P-3 aircraft.

Years of engineering innovation led to this achievement. In collaboration with NOAA OMAO, AOC, AOML, and CIMAS, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, the Black Swift Technologies Inc. team mounted a camera to the cap of the launch tube of an S0 drone during an operational mission into Hurricane Melissa.

Watch as the drone is ejected, stabilizes midair, and takes flight - collecting and transmitting critical data on the storm's structure and intensity in real time to help improve forecasts and better protect communities.
