Attaching Side Pods to the SpaceshipTwo-ish Model Rocket: Precision Building Techniques Revealed!
n this 10th episode of our SpaceshipTwo-inspired build, the main fins are securely in place, and now we're tackling the exciting next phase: attaching the outer side pods (tip pods) and rear strakes to create that iconic, aerodynamic profile.
Watch as we begin with a thorough dry-fit check, ensuring the tabs slide perfectly into their slots—using a simple file to make minor adjustments for a seamless match on both sides. We install the nose cones early with thick CA glue for easy access, then employ a custom jig to align everything flawlessly. To prevent any pivoting or misalignment, we tack the pods in place with superglue, positioning the rocket level on the table with fins hanging off the edge for straight, professional results. Accelerator helps bridge those initial gaps, setting the stage for a rock-solid hold.
Next, we add the strakes, guided by precise pencil lines marked earlier.
