Scallydandling about the books | Victorian drama: Mrs Warren's Profession by George Bernard Shaw - women, class, moral hypocrisy @scallydandlingaboutthebook2711 | Uploaded October 2023 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
Shaw published Mrs Warren's Profession in 1893 but couldn't get it performed as it was deemed immoral. In reality it was a bold exploration of ideas about the New Woman, the moral strictures around women's behaviour and the way people profited from organised prostitution in his time. It is also a vigorous and entertaining bit of theatre.
