Today I am going to have a look at a new book from Helion.

Victorian Crusaders by Nicholas Schofield covers the story of the British and Irish Volunteers in the Papal Armies between 1860 and 70, a short time period but one which saw the short histories of the iconic St Patricks Battalion and the Papal Zouaves.

Regular viewers will know that I have both of these units in 28mm and my Battle of Mentana Project has been my main build of the last year.

This is a well written book with lots of information which is new on a subject rarely covered in English. Well illustrated, with many pictures from private collections that I havent seen before. Highly Recommended.

I start the video with a short reading from the Prologue of the book and finish with a few verses of the Poem "Mentana" poem by Francis Palgrave.
