Commodore billed the VIC-20 as "The Friendly Computer" right on the front of the box. However, my VIC-20 with a PET-Style keyboard isn't feeling friendly: while I found and repaired several broken traces on the keyboard PCB, multiple keys still don't work... which means one thing: a bad VIA chip.
If I can remember where I put them, I have two brand-new VIAs from WDC: the W65C22N6TPG-14 to be precise, which is the version that is compatible with the 6522.
I also have some VIC-20s with colors that are off, and some recently-received Console5 cap kits, so after I'm done with the PET-style keyboard, I'll start taking a look at motherboards.
Will the new VIA chips finally allow the PET-style keyboard type correctly? Will I have to admit to misplacing them? Will I have time to see if re-capping VIC-20s restores the correct on-screen colors? You'll have to watch to find out!

Or something like that...
Theres three rows of bad sockets left in COMPUTER, so the project to replace all the original sockets is in the home stretch. With each new row of sockets, both the appearance of the motherboard and my confidence in a fully-working COMPUTER increases. Maybe tonights the night.
Will I get the remaining sockets replaced tonight? Will I be able to test the board? Will I find a mistake the had way? Youll have to watch to find out!
