CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WFXR) – The VHSL Alignment Committee has made its recommendations for the 2027-28 – 2030-31 4-year alignment plan. On August 25, 2026, the Alignment Appeals Committee met and addressed all appeals and opposition regarding the recommended alignment plan. Appellants were notified of the Appeal Committee’s decisions.
NINE LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS PUT IN AN APPEAL TO THE VHSL'S RECOMMENDED ALIGNMENT PLAN FOR 2027-2031.
DENIED 1-Alleghany requests to move down to Class 2, Region B instead of their alignment assignment to Class 3, Region C.
DENIED 2-Grayson County requests to move down to Class 1, Region C instead of their alignment assignment to Class 2, Region C.
DENIED 3-Patrick Henry requests to move down to Class 5, Region C instead of their alignment assignment to Class 6, Region A.
DENIED 4-James River requests to move down to Class 1, Region C, Pioneer District instead of their alignment assignment to Class 2, Region C, Three Rivers District.
APPROVED 5-Liberty requests to move to Dogwood District from Seminole District.
APPROVED 6-Liberty Christian Academy requests to move up to Class 3, Region C instead of their alignment assignment to Class 2, Region C.
DENIED 7-Marion requests to move down to Class 1, Region D Southwest District instead of their alignment assignment to Class 2, Region D Hogoheegee District.
DENIED 8-Nelson County requests to move down to Class 1, Region B instead of their alignment assignment to Class 2, Region C.
APPROVED 9-Smith Mountain Lake Christian Academy request to move to Class 1, Region C Pioneer District instead of their alignment assignment to Class 1, Region B Dogwood District.
Below is the timeline for moving forward with this process:
September 8 Deadline to notify the VHSL office of intent to appeal.
The Executive Committee’s review of an appeal shall be limited to an evaluation of the written record of the original appeal as published in the appendix of the Recommended Alignment Plan. The Executive Committee shall then issue its decision in response to all such appeals as amendments to its final motion to approve the formal alignment plan. The VHSL’s Executive Director shall inform each appellant school of the Executive Committee’s decision. The Executive Committee's decision shall be final.
September 23 Executive Committee determines final alignment plan – 2027 - 2031
