About the poem - In an unfortunate accident her own house was burnt down and it inspired her to write this poem where she denies to be grieved or angered by the catastrophe, instead looks toward god and the assurance of heaven as her solace.
About the poet - Anne Bradstreet (born Anne Dudley; c. 1612 -- September 16, 1672) was the first poet and first female writer in the British North American colonies to be published. She wrote about politics, theology, medicine and history.
