In the 1950s, Heidelberg’s family moved to Detroit where she completed her high school degree and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology and a master’s in social work from Wayne State University. Just as Heidelberg had been nurtured in her youth, she sought to protect and support others. In addition to her own work, she supported her husband, Robert Heidelberg, in his private dermatology practice. Over the years, she has supported numerous organizations, including her sorority Delta Sigma Theta and Westminster Church of Detroit. She was a charter member of the Greater Wayne County Chapter of The Links, a women’s organization that seeks to enhance quality of life in Black communities, and she chaired the women’s committee of the United Negro College Fund.
