101not5 | Vegas to LA - Bypass the CA border backup using I-515, I-11, US 95, NV 164 @101not5 | Uploaded June 2022 | Updated October 2024, 3 hours ago.
At the end of most weekends there is a bad traffic backup on Interstate 15 at the Nevada/California border where the road narrows from 3 to 2 lanes. An alternative is to take I-515 south from Las Vegas, which turns into I-11, then exit at US 95 south. Take US 95 to Searchlight and turn right onto Nevada 164 (Nipton Rd), which takes you to I-15 near Mountain Pass. This is around 50 miles further than the direct I-15 route out of Vegas, but may still save time if the backup is bad. Time from Vegas to Mountain Pass using this route is around 90 minutes.
