On Sunday, June 2, 1991, the AIDS Action Committee held it's third annual From All Walks Of Life, a 10K walk to raise money for AIDS care and research. WFNX was the official media sponsor of the event. At 3:06PM, radio stations all over Massachusetts played the Dionne Warwick version of "That's What Friends Are For". Being an alternative rock station, we felt that this version did not fit our format, so we found another way to participate.
On June 1, 1991, WFNX gathered some of Boston's finest area musicians at Outpost Studios in Stoughton, MA, to record an alternative version of "That's What Friends Are For". At 10:00AM, Cliffs of Dooneen started laying down the music tracks. By 2:30PM, we were ready for the vocals. By 5:30PM, we had all of the tracks done and began mixing the version you are now holding.
At 3:06PM on Sunday, June 2, 1991, as 85 other New England radio stations played the original version of "That's What Friends Are For", WFNX aired this specially created version giving the whole event a uniquely Boston flavor. We hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
All proceeds from the sale of this CD will be donated to the AIDS Action Committee.
