John Bogle created the first index fund, known as the Vanguard 500 index which tracks the s&p 500 index, largely accepted as a form of passive investing.
The Vanguard fund was revolutionary in terms of offering a low cost fund to investors, as opposed to investing in the higher cost mutual funds, otherwise known as actively managed funds.
