Valero’s Memphis Refinery through the Valero Benefit for Children (BFC) program venture to the heart of Soulsville U.S.A., a place where musical history was made many years ago in a neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee, and how it continues to inspire the students of the Soulsville Foundation today.
Students at the Stax Music Academy (SMA) and the Soulsville Charter School are able to reach for that next level of success. As the foundation’s premier after-school program and summer music institute, SMA provides music education combined with performance opportunities and creative youth programming. The Soulsville Charter School focuses on preparing middle and high school students for college and life through a rigorous academic, but music-rich environment.
The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is the third part of the foundation, and tells the story of the artists and music legends who recorded there, through interactive exhibits featuring more than 2,000 items of historic memorabilia.
