Valero Texas City Refinery employee Trevor Henderson discovered the College of the Mainland (COM) Process Technology (PTECH) program where he found his niche.
Soon after completing the PTECH program, Henderson turned his interest in process technology and the hands-on training he gained into his job as a Relief Operator with Valero. Henderson values the hands-on training he received in the PTECH program, including instruction with a new glass distillation unit, which provided him with practical experience as close to being in the field as you can get.
The PTECH program at COM is one of just a handful of training programs like it in the state of Texas. In 2024, Valero contributed $187,000, helping to fund the program’s glass distillation training unit, and ultimately helping to create a path for students to find careers with Valero or other industries in Texas. That investment has paid off with Henderson and hopefully with future PTECH students.
