The Secrets of the Universe | Valentine's Day Asteroid Is Coming! @TheSecretsoftheUniverse | Uploaded April 2023 | Updated October 2024, 4 days ago.
NASA has discovered a new asteroid that may collide with our planet on Valentine’s Day, 2046. The asteroid has been named 2023 DW and is currently 21 million kilometers, or 13 million miles, away from Earth. It’s moving at an impressive speed of 24.6 km/s. While the likelihood of impact is currently rated as "very small," the asteroid's size and potential impact have put it at a level 1 on the Torino scale. The Planetary Defense Coordination Office will determine if action needs to be taken, including the deployment of the Double Asteroid Redirection Test or the DART impactor. However, the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs was roughly 200 times larger than 2023 DW, making the likelihood of a similar event currently low.
