Love is in the air! Welcome to Cupid's Lair, a Valentine's Day ambience where the love potion flows like wine, the scent of dewy roses clings to the air, and chocolates are eaten by the dozen! I hope this give a little romantic ambience to your space. Enjoy!

While making this Valentine's Day ambience, I got really interested in the mythology surrounding Cupid and randomly did a ton of research. As a writer, I couldn't help but imagine my own story about Cupid—something quite dark. Though this ambience appears cheerful and bubbly, I picture a story in which Cupid leads a very lonely life, where he's possibly cursed to live in solitude for eternity while being forced to witness love all around him. Forced to bring lovers together while he, himself, remains alone. Anyway, many notes were made and a story is slowly developing in my head.
Also interesting: During my research, I learned that the earliest surviving valentine is a rondeau written in the 15th-century by Charles, Duke of Orléans, to his wife. In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I thought I'd share it here. Below is the original in French, as well as the English translation:
Je suis desja d’amour tanné, I am already sick of love,
Ma tres doulce Valentinée, My very gentle Valentine,
Car pour moi fustes trop tart née, Since for me you were born too soon,
Et moy pour vous fus trop tost né. And I for you was born too late.
Dieu lui pardoint qui estrené God forgives him who has estranged
M’a de vous, pour toute l’année. Me from you for the whole year.
Je suis desja d’amour tanné, I am already sick of love,
Ma tres doulce Valentinée, My very gentle Valentine,
Bien m’estoye suspeconné, Well might I have suspected
Qu’auroye telle destinée, That such a destiny,
Ains que passast ceste journée, Thus would have happened this day,
Combien qu’Amours l’eust ordonné. How much that Love would have commanded.
Je suis desja d’amour tanné, I am already sick of love,
Ma tres doulce Valentinée. My very gentle Valentine.
According to Wikipedia, the duke was being held in the Tower of London when he wrote it, following his capture at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415.
🌹 Some sounds you'll hear in this cozy Valentine's Day ambience are:
Bubbling love potion
Rain Sounds
A mortar and pestle (Cupid has to blend his secret love potion ingredients, of course!)
Liquid pouring (potions!)
Writing (Cupid writing love notes)
A crackling fire
"The rose is red, the violet's blue,
The honey's sweet, and so are you.
Thou art my love and I am thine;
I drew thee to my Valentine:
The lot was cast and then I drew,
And Fortune said it shou'd be you." —Joseph Ritson
